About Defender of the Beat: Celebrating Sir Joe Russo’s Birthday
It was 19 years ago that Joe Russo was first knighted at the famed NYC nightclub Wetlands Preserve. In 2016, Sir Russo was once again bestowed the honor by Peter Shapiro during a ceremony at Brooklyn Bowl.
Russo’s prolific career has seen him defend the beat and uphold noble virtues like compassion and loyalty. On his day of birth, in the name of rock ‘n’ roll, we honor him with a full day and night of music from venues likes Brooklyn Bowl, LOCKN’, and The Capitol Theatre. Of course, a birthday party would not be complete without well wishes from some of Joe’s closest friends and collaborators.
Donations are gratefully accepted to support the Freaks Action Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to using the positive energy of live music to create positive change in the world. In response to the current hardship caused by COVID-19, they have created the Musicians Relief Fund to assist professional musicians and help make up for lost gigs and income by providing one-time grants to eligible artists.
