About Photos With Stories: The Rock and Roll Photography of Rosie McGee
Jay Blakesberg to Host Photos With Stories: The Rock and Roll Photography of Rosie McGee on August 2 at 2PM
Author and photographer Rosie McGee is well known for her behind-the-scenes photos of the early days of the Grateful Dead, taken when she lived, traveled, and worked with the Dead during their first decade as a band. In her book, Dancing with the Dead—A Photographic Memoir, she tells intimate stories of those times lived at the heart of the San Francisco counterculture of the 1960s, and illustrates those stories with 200 of her photographs.
Her iconic photos have appeared in dozens of books, films, album packaging, TV shows, periodicals, and online. As a public speaker and storyteller, she has presented her photos and stories in a wide variety of venues. From academic conferences, libraries, and university classes, to nightclubs and other venues, McGee has shared the bill with bands who celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead
Donations will be gratefully accepted to support The Rex Foundation. The Rex Foundation was created by members of the Grateful Dead and Friends in 1983 as a charitable non-profit organization to proactively provide extensive community support to creative endeavors in the arts, sciences, and education. We’re honored to support their mission to help to secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure their cultural survival, build a stronger community, and educate children.
